Course Description

For many patients, understanding pain intellectually is not enough. Knowledge alone doesn't always translate into change – and when it doesn't, clinicians need more options. Embodied Pain Science Education uses the felt sense of the physical body as a powerful tool for acquiring and consolidating new understanding about pain. This is learning through experience, with the body as the story-teller.

When pain persists, we experience changes in how the body feels, how it functions, and what we feel capable of doing. These changes reinforce misconceptions about pain – and changing those beliefs may require embodied experiences that are genuinely incongruent with them. For some patients, listening and reading is enough. For others, feeling is believing.

This brand new course launches for the first time to UK and European audiences, brought to you by two world-leading pain physiotherapists with decades of experience bridging pain science and embodied movement practice.

Why clinicians choose this course:

  • Expand your clinical toolkit – Gain powerful new options for patients who are not responding to traditional pain science education approaches
  • Bring the body back into treatment – Learn to use embodied experience as a convincing and effective path to reconceptualising pain
  • Immediately applicable – Foundational techniques you can bring directly into your next clinical session
  • For clinicians and patients – Reducing stress and increasing safety in the body helps patients engage more deeply with the education you are offering them

What Makes This Course Unique?

  • Embodied Learning: Move beyond verbal and cognitive approaches – use what patients feel in their bodies to make pain education tangible and real
  • Complementary Approach: Understand how embodied education sits alongside and enhances existing pain science education
  • Body-Mind Techniques: Be guided through foundational breathing and interoceptive practices with direct clinical application
  • Brand New to the UK: Developed and refined in Australia and Canada – this is its first outing for UK and European clinicians
  • Feeling is Believing: When patients experience something different in their bodies, that can be the tipping point that makes new concepts about pain real and true

Who Is This Course For?

This course is designed for clinicians who have read Explain Pain or completed an Explain Pain course, and who want more options when patients do not engage with current pain science education processes, or when individuals struggle to translate knowledge into behavioural change.

Participants come from many professions – physiotherapists, occupational therapists, doctors, nurses, psychologists, exercise physiologists, and other healthcare professionals. Come with an open mind!
